Does anyone have shortness of breath with Gerd/Acid Reflux?

Does anyone have shortness of breath with their Gerd/Acid Reflux? Also, does anyone have Gerd/Acid Reflux almost 24/7 even with taking medication?

When my shortness of breath is at it's worst just taking a deep breath closes up the pit of my throat and chest...sort of like the heart feeling crushed? It's always worse after eating, I have acid reflux 24-7, it leaks into my lungs at night during sleep.

Vanessa Nellestein
Are you on any medication?

Abaddon Axel Boqvist
I take Omeprazol 20mg twice a day plus gaviscon chewable tablets.

Vanessa Nellestein
And this medication doesn't help?

Carol Muller
I have the same. I was diagnosed with a sliding hiatal hernia. I was on several meds and now I take apple cider vinegar in the am, massage around my upper abdomen to loose the fascia. It has helped immensely, I found the drugs made me feel better temporarily bit worse in the long run. I've had this for over 3 months all day. Much better at night but the acid floats up into throat. My shortness of breathe is much worse when the fascia is tight around my upper abdomen/back.

Erica DeRosa Miller
Yes. I have uncontrolled reflux... meaning nothing helps it.

Vanessa Nellestein
That's no good. Do you have it constantly?

Erica DeRosa Miller
Yes... and the reflux makes the muscles in my esophagus tighten up and not relax, so I always feel like my throat is closing up and my chest is tight and it feels hard to breathe at times.

Vanessa Nellestein
👎 Do you also have a feeling of a lump in your throat?

Erica DeRosa Miller
Vanessa Nellestein Yes. It's like a feeling like something is caught there.

Aliza Kessler
It's normal to have difficulty breathing from acid reflux. What medication are you on?

Vanessa Nellestein
Hi Aliza. Nexium 40 and Zantac 300.

Aliza Kessler
Vanessa Nellestein that should be working for you. When did you start taking it? You might have asthma or something and you may need an inhaler.

Vanessa Nellestein
Reflux started towards the end of May. Nexium seemed to be helping for about 2 weeks and then the symptoms got worse. Started on Zantac about 5 days ago and has made no difference.

Aliza Kessler
Vanessa Nellestein go to the doctor and see if they can help. Are your symptoms just difficulty breathing?

Vanessa Nellestein
Symptoms are tight and sometimes painful chest. Feeling of a lump in my throat and discomfort in my upper stomach area. Shortness of breath is vary rare.

Vanessa Nellestein
And intermittently a blocked nose

Aliza Kessler
Vanessa Nellestein call the doctor what to do. You are on enough medication. Maybe nexium isn't working

Vanessa Nellestein
From what I've read I believe some people never get relief after trying a lot of different medications!!!👎

Aliza Kessler
Vanessa Nellestein maybe it's the foods you are eating that's doing it to you.

Vanessa Nellestein
Yes, it's probably not helping and I know what I should/shouldn't be having, I just haven't put it into practice yet. Just strange that for 2 weeks I did get significant relief with the Nexium!!!!

Vanessa Nellestein
Does your medication work for you?

Rae Schiavone Garzone
Vanessa Nellestein some but I still have symptoms.

Pam Ladd Vanderveer
I still have symptoms with meds. And, doing all the right things, eating all the right things.

Lia Raices
gerd can give us asthma. i have it.

Susan Orosz
Asthma meds can contribute to gerd also.

Peter Richardson
I have a cough constantly from the mucus in the bottom of my throat from constant GERD. So yep.

Stephanie Schritenthal
I do get shortness of breathe - I am not on a regular med but I occasionally take Zantac when it’s really bad.

Loretta Smith
Yes, and now my latest symptom is constsnt burning from my stomach to my throat no matter what I eat. Menopause got me all messed up.

Monica Zavala
It is debilitating. The shortness of breath feels like asthma without the wheezing and does not respond to the asthma pump at all. That plus the tight feeling in my throat, has been a nightmare. My intuition says it might be acid vapors from the esophagus that I’m breathing in. If I pay close attention I can almost feel the vapor in my lungs.
