What prescription strength medicine does everyone take for their GERD? My insurance is going to stop coverage on my Omeprazole and I've been on it for over 10 years now. I can't afford to buy OTC.

Mine stopped covering dicyclomine so I looked up their formulary online and saw what they did cover that was similar. ANd called my doctor's office to see if they could write a new scrip. They did.

I had a endoscopy 2 years ago and was diagnosed w/ gastritis and a hiatal hernia. I’m minimizing all fat intake, drinking oh before every meal for extra stomach acid and trying to get my allergies under control w/ LDN and immunization.

I also eat a low carb, low acid diet and see a dietician along with my GI doctor...I get sick and vomit all the time without medication though...I have GERD, hiatal hernia, gastroparesis, IBS, and Ulcerative Colitis...I've been sick with my stomach since I was young.

It’s just one study but it was peer reviewed by 50+ scholars so meh. There’s no doubt that so many reflux suffers just need more acid to break down their food though. That is my case anyways

Oral Allergy Syndrome. It’s when certain food proteins cross react with environmental allergies. If you are highly allergic to Timothy grass for example, you may have problems eating oranges. Birch trees, apples. Ragweed, bananas. Etc. Medicaid should pay for all necessary allergy testing if that’s what insurance you have.

Omg that's awful they stopped paying for it all...if I was in a situation where I had income at the moment I would buy it OTC..but I'm in a position where I can't right now so I've got to have something for it...if it flares up I use tums or baking soda to settle it but otherwise off medication I vomit all the time

Yeah Nothing worked for Nick but they put him on this about 4 years ago and has done very well with it. But the reflux had already done damage to his Esophogus so yesterday he had the Nissen Fundoplication Surgery. They are keeping him on the pantoprazole because he still has reflux pretty bad but this will help his Esophogus heal.

As far as I know, I think that one of the rules for this site that the administrators of this feedback group keep stressing is to not challenge prescribed medical advice from a persons doctor... unless it is stated as just your opinion or experience and claimed as such.

Chelsea Megan B I'm tempted to see another GI doc about getting the Nissen surgery. However I'm a member of the FB board for this. The possible complications from surgery are scary. Many regret the surgery.

I've had about 6-7 upper scopes done including maintenance and emergency scopes but I've never really got in depth with my GI doc about my GERD

Paul Devery I see..I am sorry to hear you have suffered for so long..I have routine 5 year upper and lower scopes done...my upper is mostly good for me ...I haven't had a Mallory Weiss tear since I was 23 so I've been doing good but my lower is another deal...I have polyps but they are benign thankfully ...lots of inflammation, ulcerative colitis and I have IBS so they've been checking me routinely for Colin cancer (grandpa died from) but everything comes out fine so far! I am glad of that.

Chelsea Megan B it was originally for short term ( a few weeks) but if necessary can be used for longer. Ask about side effects as you should with any med you are taking or considering taking.
Take this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. If you are using this medicine without a prescription, follow the instructions on the medicine label.

Reason I'm asking here is most times I prefer the opinions of people who have experience with medications because the doctors tend to just write prescriptions. I would be back to not eating without meds. I was getting acid induced pneumonia acid burns in my sinuses. The pain was unreal so i couldnt eat. No way am i going thru that again.

Chelsea Megan B when i got to gi i had severe burns in my sinuses from the acid. Repeated bouts of acid induced pneumonia. I started my dexilant within 3 days of starting i noticed significant less acid backflowing up my throat. Within a week i was no longer wet burping constantly and my stomach no longer felt like i was being burned from the inside out. On week 2 i felt completely human again.
I still get flares dont get me wrong and then i do gaviscon extra strength and my reglan for a few days to calm it back down.

If you have weak valve(s), there's a good chance you'll be on a PPI for life to limit damage to your esophagus and other delicate tissues. It's just a reality for many of us. Short-term use would be helpful for treating an ulcer or a situation where reflux somehow resolves.

Oral Allergy Syndrome. It’s when certain food proteins cross react with environmental allergies. If you are highly allergic to Timothy grass for example, you may have problems eating oranges. Birch trees, apples. Ragweed, bananas. Etc. Medicaid should pay for all necessary allergy testing if that’s what insurance you have.

Omg that's awful they stopped paying for it all...if I was in a situation where I had income at the moment I would buy it OTC..but I'm in a position where I can't right now so I've got to have something for it...if it flares up I use tums or baking soda to settle it but otherwise off medication I vomit all the time

Yeah Nothing worked for Nick but they put him on this about 4 years ago and has done very well with it. But the reflux had already done damage to his Esophogus so yesterday he had the Nissen Fundoplication Surgery. Paul Devery I see..I am sorry to hear you have suffered for so long..I have routine 5 year upper and lower scopes done...my upper is mostly good for me ...I haven't had a Mallory Weiss tear since I was 23 so I've been doing good but my lower is another deal...I have polyps but they are benign thankfully ...lots of inflammation, ulcerative colitis and I have IBS so they've been checking me routinely for Colin cancer (grandpa died from) but everything comes out fine so far! I am glad of that.

Chelsea Megan B it was originally for short term ( a few weeks) but if necessary can be used for longer. Ask about side effects as you should with any med you are taking or considering taking.
Take this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. If you are using this medicine without a prescription, follow the instructions on the medicine label.

Reason I'm asking here is most times I prefer the opinions of people who have experience with medications because the doctors tend to just write prescriptions. I would be back to not eating without meds. I was getting acid induced pneumonia acid burns in my sinuses. The pain was unreal so i couldnt eat. No way am i going thru that again.

Chelsea Megan B when i got to gi i had severe burns in my sinuses from the acid. Repeated bouts of acid induced pneumonia. I started my dexilant within 3 days of starting i noticed significant less acid backflowing up my throat. Within a week i was no longer wet burping constantly and my stomach no longer felt like i was being burned from the inside out. On week 2 i felt completely human again.
I still get flares dont get me wrong and then i do gaviscon extra strength and my reglan for a few days to calm it back down.

If you have weak valve(s), there's a good chance you'll be on a PPI for life to limit damage to your esophagus and other delicate tissues. It's just a reality for many of us. Short-term use would be helpful for treating an ulcer or a situation where reflux somehow resolves.
