I think actual corn is just hard to digest?
Lind Say
Well acid reflux makes it hard to digest things doesn't it?
Mal Clark
Lind Say High Fructose Corn Syrup? Ive heard it isn’t good for GERD, or general health. I avoid most processed food anyway.
Lind Say
Well it would be nice if I could avoid it completely
Mal Clark
Maybe it was causing me problems and I didn’t know because I don’t eat any of the 20 foods listed here.
Matthew Etline
You can live corn syrup free. I do. Just have to make the right buying choices.
Lind Say
Not in my situation. That's not practical advice for everyone, especially if you're hypoglycemic.
Sarah Henry
Lind Say aren't there better choices to balance that condition though?
Lind Say
Idk. I'm not in a position to do much about it.
Matthew Etline
I’m no expert so take this with a grain of salt, but if you need sugar to maintain levels, there are better options than high fructose corn syrup. I imagine you can eat fruits instead. I would say talk to a nutritionist
Lind Say
Fruit spoils in 100° weather and very few fast food places or gas stations have anything that I can tolerate with the reflux.
Matthew Etline
Seriously? You don’t have refrigeration or supermarkets where you live?
Lind Say
Um yeah but sometimes I have to eat on the go.
Dave Wakefield
Corn syrup isn't in anything I eat or is it just an American thing? Just don't eat anything processed.
Paull Alekna
American, the rest of use use actual sugar to boost our reflux levels
Lind Say
I wish more things here contained real sugar instead of corn syrup. That stuff is nasty.
Daved Hild
High Fructose Corn Syrup you mean? And processed Sugar is not Good for you either.
Lind Say
Daved Hild Yeah but I don't react to sugar. I react to high fructose corn syrup
Daved Hild
Thats because it’s in unhealthy over processed hard to digest Crap!
I’d also be wary of refined sugar intake as you get older Type 2 diabetes or Pre-diabetes could develop!
Dave Wakefield
You don't react to sugar? Lucky for some. I can't touch any refined sugar. I'm fine with natural sugars such as honey.
Lind Say
I mean if I eat too much of it yeah but not normally, not in small amounts
Daved Hild
Lind Say I saw where you are limited as far as healthy food choices buying canned goods etc.in your present situation.
Feel for you and wish you all the best!
Michelle Bates-Phipps
corn itself is difficult to digest, making it bad for reflux. corn syrup in itself is pretty easy to digest. Now, high fructose corn syrup is another thing entirely!
Daved Hild
Giving up processed foods, fast foods, sodas and junk snacks making as much as you can yourself!
That’s a GERD diet and the way back!👍🏻
Corn and Rice based Gluten Free pastas etc. don’t bother me.
Haven’t tried corn since being diagnosed.
Everyone’s different I can make my own white popcorn in a sauce pan with a little canola no salt or butter.
If I try movie theater or microwave it has palm oil and way too much salt and additives.
I replaced sweets and snacks with fresh fruit like watermelon, banana, blueberries or dark cherries.
Corn is nutritionally not very healthy and difficult to digest. http://www.happilyunprocessed.com/the-basics/high-fructose-corn-syrup/foods-with-no-hfcs/

I get that you need food for on the go. Freeze watermelon grapes or cantaloupe. This way they slowly defrost in the heat but good healthy option. I buy canned fruit made with 100% fruit juice not corn syrup.

Huff I stopped buying processed foods. I cook pretty much everything from scratch. Really helps.

A former co-worker of mine is allergic to corn. When she found out, wow did her lifestyle change. If you eat meat, it's hard to know what exactly these animals are being fed (as corn is a known filler), so she had to find a trusted farmer to purchase from.
