My daughter is 11 and was diagnosed with GERD a couple of years ago

Hi, my daughter is 11 and was diagnosed with GERD a couple of years ago. She has various disabilities including Spina Bifida and a tracheotomy. I just wondered if anyone had experienced antibiotics exacerbating their symptoms?? My daughter is being treated for cellulitis and a UTI with 2 separate medications and we have noticed her water brash/regurgitation is much worse and is causing her a lot of distress. Thanks!

Are you giving her probiotics while she is having antibiotics? Unfortunately with cellulitis she needs the antibiotics but they destroy gut flora.

No I’m not. I’ve never even heard of doing this. Is it something I should contact her dr about?

Tina, here in Australia our doctors recommend taking probiotics when you are taking antibiotics for this reason. It makes a big difference. a good read https://yurielkaim.com/probiotics-with-antibiotics/

Nearly 4 years ago I had over 5 courses of antibiotics from the dentist (one in particular gave me a reaction) and ever since I've been suffering from ibs and acid reflex. Doctor always said I shouldn't have taken that many antibotics in one go cos it's upset the lining of my stomach. I'm scared to go to the dentist now bit I've been back and they been good. I still suffer daily now with ibs and acid reflux and always hoping I'm not in need of anymore antibotics in the near future x was told it could take up to 5 years plus to get back to normal x.

Probiotics can be taken with antibiotics but there is a time sphere to it too. My daughter got severe reflux currently on antibiotics to treat her sinusitis and she takes the antibiotics 3x a day so you give probiotics in between.
