I feel like my GERD came about when I took an antibiotic called Ciprofloxacin
I feel like my GERD came about when I took an antibiotic called Ciporfloxacin last month. Maybe it was a dormant issue for a while, but it really went full bloom 5 days into that medication. I stopped taking it after 5 days and I've eaten better and some of the symptoms have subsided. Today my doctor told me he was going to put me on another antibiotic because he said I need to get rid of my infection. I was told by the pharmacist to also take a probiotic with this new, different antibiotic. It feels like 15 minutes after taking the antibiotic I'm having more heart pain than I have had since my GERD started. Kind of scares me that I have to take these antibiotics for the next month.

My problems started with antibiotics. No one told me I should have taken ppi when on antibiotics... 😓

Unfortunately u must take the antibiotic despite the affects it has on ur gerd. Infections that are left untreated can turn really nasty. Hopefully this antibiotic will be better for u but pls take them.

Cipro is a horrid antibiotic! Has he given you something much milder?
Albert Louis
Yes he gave me something that isn't on the top classified list of antibiotics that can really mess you up. So hopefully I'll do better on it, especially since this time I'm taking a probiotic.
Peter Andrew Davies
Albert Louis For sure hopefully it will fix you up now whilst also getting help with the probiotic.
Mary Fritz
Albert, make sure you take the probiotic at least two hours after the antibiotic. Otherwise you will kill off the probiotic with the antibiotic.
Peter Andrew Davies
Also what infection is it? Could it be treated with colloidal silver?

Prostate infection. The urologist was pretty keen on me taking these antibiotics and told me that my heart problems must have been from something else before because he's never heard of that with cipro. That angered me, but once I get rid of the infection hopefully I never have to see him again.

Albert Louis He sounds very ignorant. Cipro is a terrible drug.
Albert Louis
Peter Andrew Davies he honestly didn't want to listen to what I had to say about it. I suffer from nerve damage and cipro can cause that as well and it made some of those symptoms flare up as well. He honestly looked at me like I was making things up.

Hes an idiot! I too have nerve damage from a bad benzo withdrawal and cipro would finish me off. These fools need to be held accountable for their shocking ignorance and stupidity. All you have to do is go onto youtube and type in floxed and tons of videos show up with peoples lives that have been destroyed from cipro. You will be fine now though as you're off but for sure never take them again.

Antibiotic are the culprit of my gut disease. Unfortunately my symptoms came after one round of ear infection antibiotics. Doc didnt told me to take antibiotic with probiotic and I was not aware of how bad it could turn up. Antibiotic wipes out all the GOOD and bad bacteria. So when we lost good bacteria to help with digestion thats when GERD started. I am currently taking 30 billion cpu probiotics daily to patch up my tummy. Get well soon x

Take a really good probiotic with at least 100 billion cultures. You can also take a prebiotic. Fermented foods like yogurt, kiefer, sauerkraut, and kombucha will also help with your gut flora.

I had cipro once when I had a infection after getting a skin cancer cut out. My pharmacist told me to make sure I took it with some food or even a little milk to coat my stomach first and then take a probiotic with it as it is a harsh drug. They wanted me to have it again and I said no. Sorry for ur experience 😞.

What antibiotics do is kill off the bacteria in your gut that are helping you digest your food. Undigested food causes gas which pushes stomach acid up the esophagus. You should always be instructed to take a probiotic while you are taking an antibiotic (Patient First instructs this) and after you finish the antibiotic. To help your reflux now, take digestive enzymes when you eat and experiment around with different probiotics. I find nature Made digestive probiotics to be very helpful for preventing gas. Be careful with digestive enzymes too, they can do damage too.

Take a good probiotic when your taking an antibiotic that will help keep the good bacteria as antibiotics knock out everything

You really need to get rid of that infection before it gets worse. There are things to help with the acid.
