Does anyone have low blood pressure and has gerd?
Does anyone have low blood pressure and has gerd? Beside Gerd, I have very-very low blood pressure. I can't make it without coffee or tea. I don't drink coffee without milk and only after meal. I tried without coffee or tea, but I can't work, I'm not able to live a normal life, even I can faint. I'm struggling with both and wonder if there is a connection. Any suggestion?

Well low potassium can cause heart palps and low blood presssure. Potassium is also needed to create stomach acid and low stomach acid causes acid reflux. just thinking outloud.
Beata Pietras
I do have low potassium but not severely low i noticed when i was on my PPI i felt way better i guess because now i am weak again shaky anxiety dizzy head pressure and i feel my blood pressure dropping
Tom Owen
Beata Pietras why did you stop the ppi's
Beata
I ran out refill was delayed by 3 days and while I was waiting I felt pretty good and less dizzy so I stopped but now I regret it
Tom Owen
I'm 56 and been on them since the early 80s. I would dead now without it. Are they part of the cause of my pvc's ? possibly. But one has to decide to either risk eso cancer or deal with a messed up heart beat that wont kill you. I chose to take the ppi's lol.
Tom Owen
You are a nice looking gal who is dealing with a lot of symptoms. You dont deserve that trust me.
Get back on the ppi even if its over the counter nexxium. Anxiety is causing many of your symptoms you have been posting ! ( just my opinion I am not a Dr).
See your doc and tell him to give you xanax or something for anxiety. I wish you well and hope you find relief.
Oh and remember pvcs wont hurt you they are just an early beat. A Fib is different not the same at all.
Darryl Gura
Physician can prescribe you meds for hypotension
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
They say, they can't.
Darryl Gura
Who told you that? My grandpa used to have hypotension. Maybe because there's no significant condition was diagnosed. He has heart condition
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
I don't have heart condition. My bloodpressure is low from my childhood, doctor said it can be in case of young women and girls.
But it still bad. If I won't have Gerd I would be ok with it, but this two together... I drink coffee to live a normal life but it is a trigger for my Gerd.
Kathleen Tunnicliffe
There is medication for low blood pressure, but there are many other things to try first. Caffeine will only increase your BP for a little while anyway.
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
They don't give a medication for it.
What things to try? I feel I tried all of the things, I hopeless. ๐๐ฃ
Kathleen Tunnicliffe
There is medication for low blood pressure. Fludrocortisone for one, it increases your circulating blood volume. Midodrine is another, it works by stopping your blood vessels from expanding as much. I'm surprised your Dr didn't tell you this.
Kathleen Tunnicliffe
What have you tried so far?
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
Drinkink more water, eating salty ( not good for gerd, I had to stop it), sport, vitamins.
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
My Mom and my Grandma had the same, actually my Mom has it. The doctors allways say it is not an illness, do not need medication.
Kathleen Tunnicliffe
Sports not going to help low blood pressure. You can try compression stockings (the tight ones) it can help the blood volume to stay higher. Getting up from sitting or lying down slowly and carefully. But if you have been getting this for a long time, it really needs further investigation.Coffee isn't going to fix this.

Your symptoms are obviously causing you a whole lot of distress. Your Dr may not consider it an 'illness' but it's obviously making your life really difficult.
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
Actually not just one doctor, all the doctors that I visited. :(
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
'There arw oppinions that sport can affect it a good way.
Tessy Raft Vlas StamVret
Yes, I was told to become more active because of my low blood pressure.
Graham Douglas Hamilton
Bicarbonate of soda in the tea or coffee to neutralise the acid but not the caffeine!
MD Ch
I think ur gerd is causing ur low bp. If u r using ppi then ppi is the culprit as it does not let food nutrients to absorb in ur body. Try Galxose D.
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
Before I started to use meds I had low blood pressure...
MD Ch
I think low bp is no disease like hypertension, but a lack of food or energy.
MD Ch
So start eating those foods which are good for gerd and drink liquids that have energy and not bad for gerd.
Darryl Gura
Gerd can cause hypertension not hypotension, gerd can make your heart palpitate via vagus nerve. She has this condtion since kid
MD Ch
I agree ppi cause palpitation. But see ppi reduces acid in stomach which weakens digestion and weak digestion leads to poor absorption, resultantly lower bp. Try not depend on ppi. And drink Galxose D. It will maintain ur bp.
Darryl Gura
I meant It's the disease itself causes palpitation not the PPI.. Yes, Maybe you're right about malnutrition.
Darryl Gura
It's GERD that causes palpitation. And GERD is a disease..
MD Ch
She is asking solution for lower bp and ur focus is on palpitation and on ur god.
Kathleen Tunnicliffe
Some people need PPI. I'm one of them. Untreated GERD can cause many problems.
Shannon Kerr
Increase salt intake. Increase fluid intake. Decrease carb intake. Eat smaller meals. Don't stand for to long. Wear compression stockings if needs be. When laying down, raise the head of your bed. Cut back on any alcohol. Don't lift heavy objects. Don't strain (I.e. on the toilet) Exercise. Avoid hot showers. These are all suggestions my doctor gave me for my low BP
Tessy Raft Vlas StamVret
Shannon Kerr - that might explain why I become flat and drain so easily. More need for water and less carbs . I carry Jelly Beans around w me for when I feel my sugar drops as well.
Shannon Kerr
When you have a hypoglycaemic episode the best thing is, after you use quick sugar to get your numbers back up, eat something with protein. Sugar with get your glucose up and protein will keep it up.
Kathleen Tunnicliffe
Make sure you are drinking enough water. Low circulating volume can cause low blood pressure. Caffeine is absolutely terrible for reflux and won't sustain your blood pressure for very long anyway. Make sure you have enough potassium, calcium, sodium and magnesium in your blood. They can all affect your pressure. If you aren't sure you can get a blood test for all of these.
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
Green the can affect long.
I drink enough water. Once or twice a year I have blood test, nothing wrong.
Kathleen Tunnicliffe
If you are taking medication for your GERD it can stop you absorbing electrolytes. Are you getting tested specifically for these things? A general blood test won't look for electrolytes. If you are fainting from your low blood pressure then you need more than coffee. It can be a sign that there is something wrong with your heart or your kidneys. Has your Dr looked at these?
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
My kidney and heart is ok. I did not faint nowadays, because I know my low blood pressure and drink coffee or tea. But for example, if I go to work on the morning sometimes I feel very weak, I have to sit down on the train just to the next stop as well. I don't drink coffee at home on the morning, I just drink it in my workplace after breakfast.
Tessy Raft
Vlas StamVret How many cups of coffee do you have ? How many glasses of water ? I find Tea less irritating on the stomach than coffee though sometimes it can make me feel tired, though I don't know why. I also have Jelly Beans when I start to feel weak. I find Berrocca w Guarana helpful as a drink . Apparently Guarana is similar to coffee but is more natural and safer .
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
Two cup of coffee and 2 liters water or more.
Tessy Raft
Vlas StamVret If your coffee is strong .. it will irritate . I find water very helpful especially if I hydrate myself well First thing in the morning . I also drink 2 litres. But sometimes I still feel dehydrated . My body will feel better w 10 - 12 glasses but it is hard to do . There was a person on the radio who had called in .. And his doctor told him to drink unbelievable amounts of water because of his Low Blood Pressure . I am still astounded at the amount of litres that was mentioned and I am not sure if I believe it . But it was more than double 2 litres a day :O !
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
Oh, who can drink that much? ๐ฒ Ok, if you are living in the desert, I can understand, but in the Middle of Europe, I think it is inpossible. ๐ Can the poor guy drink so much, or just tried?
Krista Billy
I have low blood pressure as well. I have a condition called POTS. I put sea salt in my water and drink it. I drink it first thing in the morning before I get out of bed so I can function. I also drink it through the day if I feel it going back down. I work full time at a desk job. I keep a desk cycle under my desk so I can constantly keep my legs moving. That helps tremendously. I also don't retain fluids well unless they are heavier so I mix a bit of Gatorade in with my water. Not a ton of Gatorade but just enough to make it heavier. Sometimes I drink coconut water. I've found my body can absorb it better this way. It helps with my blood pressure.
Donna DiMartino Gaffney
alkaline foods will lower your BP....like ginger or white potato & sweet potato. When it goes low, drink Gatorade & have some American cheese. a lot of sodium in those & they will bring BP back up pretty quickly!
Radhika Sharma
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi, I was in your place 6 years back. I have been having low blood pressure right from childhood and doctors don't find it unusual saying same reason, young women have tendency of low bp. 6 years back I was diagnosed with Gerd and Hiatus Hernia and at that point I also was dealing with terrible low bp issues which no doctors took it seriously. My normal life was hampered because of low bp. I was struggling with this everyday with no answers and medicine. I had a hidden Neurological condition called Dysautonomia & POTS which was due to a Genetic disorder called Ehler Danlos Syndrome. And in this Low bp, Gerd and all are closely associated. I was on low bp medicines which somebody mentioned here Fludrocortisone and midodrine for 2 years to keep me moving. Please see an experienced Neurologist and a Cardiologist because low bp will not happen due to gerd, food habits, etc. My advice to you have loads of liquid and increase your salt intake and try having Himalayan Pink Salt instead of the usual salt. Please insist for a Headup Table tilt test with your Dr you might find answers to your problem. And please avoid caffeine in all forms it will only dehydrate you and make things worst for you.
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
I visited my doctor yesterday again. I sais (again) about my low bp and I want to do something about it. She said, she have low bp as well, she is sorry but there is nothing about to do. ๐ฒ
Radhika Sharma
Having Low bp is not a problem but if it interferes with your daily routine, its a cause of concern. Refer to a specialist who understands the issue than just saying No treatment is there for low bp.
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
To go to the specialist I need my doctor aproval... She thinks I have no problem, I do not need any special treatment.
Radhika Sharma
Well Thats upto you to decide are you happy with your treatment๐
Toth Freyja Zsuzsi
