'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

My esophagus is sore of one certain point

I need help! has anybody had the same that i have? My esophagus is sore of one certain point. allmost at the middle of length and little bit to the right side. It feels like there is a cut or something and it radiates to your back now and then. The pain feels like its somewhere deep. The ppi´s don´t help to that pain and i don´t feel like refluxing just now, but what could cause this pain? It goes away sometimes, but comes back at night at the latest. Not right away when i lay down, but at night i wake up to that pain. I have gastroenterologist appointment on next tuestday, but if somebody has had the same, i would like to hear.

Ive had this exact pain.. sharp and deep pain in the esophagus or so I think? that sometimes radiates through to the back. sometimes It felt like pin pricks deep in my esophagus. Its much better now but back last year it was intense. Im not sure what it was other than esophagitis

Good to hear, that somebody has had the same and it goes maybe away. Somebody in my countrys group said, that maybe it is vagus nerve and that the fear of the pain increases the symptoms. Yesterday i took wery hot and comfotable shower, it took the pain away for the evening. It came back at night tough.

Thats interesting about the vagus nerve. Mine started after an endoscopy in late 2016. The endoscopy found esophagitis grade b with linear ulcers but at that time I had no pain at all and was surprised to hear I had ulcers in my esophagus. Then a couple of weeks later all hell broke loose in my chest. Ive never experienced pain to that degree! felt like my esophagus was being cut with a knife.. excruciating. The only thing that used to really help a bit was ice. Im 90 percent better now though so it will get better for you.

Thank you for your comments and answer. It was settling to hear, that i´m not the onlyone with this feeling.

Susanne Ripsomaa
Do you use PPI medicine and are they helping?

Peter Andrew Davies
Hey no probs the same here. I did use omeprazole 60mg and ranitidine 300 mg daily but felt so unwell on it so came off and have almost healed without them

Peter Andrew Davies
Have you tried slippery elm? It is very soothing and great for coating the esophagus and healing it.. also dgi licorice.

Susanne Ripsomaa
How wonderful to hear that you have cured! Did you have loose spinchter? I have, but i have heard you can cure inspite of that. I´m not sure, what is Slippery Elm called here in my country. Licourice we have here a lot, but is it different than DGI?

Im a lot better :) Yes have a weak les.. think thats the same as spinchter? not sure :) it was found when I did a manometry study. This was 2 months ago and it also found significant reflux which is weird as the chest pain has continued to get better. Are you in the USA? If so slippery elm goes by the same name there. Its an amazing supplement for healing. The dgi means the licorice is deglisorized.. excuse the spelling lol. Its safer than normal licorice as it doesnt raise blood pressure.

Susanne Ripsomaa
Yeah, thats the same thing. No, i´m from Finland, but i could check it from iherb. Maybe the slippery elm has helped to heal inspite of the reflux.

Peter Andrew Davies
I know they sell it on amazon.

I have a diagnose now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tietze_syndrome.

Peter Andrew Davies
Thats great.. well not great but great you now know what it is. Is that the same as costochondritis? Saying that because my bottom rib on the left side is really sore to touch

Susanne Ripsomaa
Somewhere there i read something about contochondritis, but i don´t know. I wrote this to you, that maybe you had the same thing..? Here it says, that it might take a long time to heal properly.

Peter Andrew Davies
Much appreciated thank you :) Im going to look into it. it certainly fits the symptoms ive been getting. Its eased a lot for me but I do still get flairs. Have you thought about taking turmeric? Its a really good anti inflammatory

Susanne Ripsomaa
Actually that is what i take allmost ewery day. Ordered that slippery elm also.

Peter Andrew Davies
Great :) The slippery elm should help too for any irritation. Doesnt taste the best but hey :p.

Susanne Ripsomaa It says that it is the same "also called chondropathia tuberosa or costochondral junction syndrome"

Jake Woost

Susanne Ripsomaa I have the same thing: Tietze + gerd. They seem to be related somehow, but honestly I believe acid is more of the root cause. Really painful though, sorry you’re going through it.
