COMMENTS:

Ellen Ruddell
Ranitidine and gaviscon advanced.

Josiebel Franco
I get IC omeprazole. But before i was diagnosed i used to take ranitidine for nausea, is that what you use it for or does it work for your acid reflux as well.

Ellen Ruddell
I use it for acid reflux I was on omeprasole but as I had been on them for years I wanted to come off as I heard of some nasty long term side effects but the ranitidine is helping.

Josiebel Franco
Now you are scaring me lol. I take the pill on a daily. Now on my second bottle. ๐Ÿ˜’ I do have some renitidine left, would you say it helps more than omeprazole.

Ellen Ruddell
Don't be scared lol but it is something I want to try and avoid, I was taking up to two a day and started feeling worse after taking it sometimes having palpitations and skipped beats etc, so changed to the ranitidine and gaviscon advanced which do help but certain foods trigger the acid.

Josiebel Franco
I see, i only take it once a day, and i fell thats what makes my nausea worse , but i will try to check out other meds, thank you for your feed back. It really helps.

Ellen Ruddell
Anytime ๐Ÿ˜Š it's all trial and error, how long you been taking the omeprasole?

Josiebel Franco
I think i started before May or on May

Ellen Ruddell
I would try switching to ranitidine if possible, no one explains how difficult it becomes to get off them after being on for longer than about 6 weeks, you get a rebound effect which can be awful, I take a ranitidine before breakfast for me personally before gives me more relief than taking it after, then I take one an hour or so before bed, if I still have heartburn or reflux I wait a couple of hours after taking it and take the gaviscon aswell but that's only when needed.

Josiebel Franco
What does the rebound effect make you feel like?

Ellen Ruddell
Extreme acid reflux, severe burning in my stomach and up my throat it's horrible cos it can give you chest pains if the acid is too severe.

Ellen Ruddell
No Cheryl it works in a different way.

Amarie Mc
I was on Pantoprazole for 7 months. It did stop my chest pain but I did not get complete relief. I still had trapped wind in my chest and throat. I also became deficient in vitamins and minerals I was referred to a Hematologist not to mention the side effects. I stopped PPI 2 months ago I have no heartburn whatsoever. I get pressure in my chest and throat. Pain in my left chest and back. Pain in my belly below the breast. I see GI on Tuesday I am refusing PPI. I'm hoping I don't have to be scoped again.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Cheryl Kilpatrick the ppis have a way of ceasing to work I've had three ppis just stop working on me

Amarie Mc
Cheryl Kilpatrick I quit cold turkey. The side effects were too much plus I was already having problems from iron deficiency etc. shortness of breath, dizziness.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Oh I suffered terribly but I am on a different ppi I have an appt.with gastro doc next month hoping I make it there before all stops working and then idkn what.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Cheryl how long have you been on ppis?

Amarie Mc
Cheryl Kilpatrick I did for like a week. I had acid coming up but it subsided. Now it's been 2 months no acid but I get the pressure/ pain in my left side of my chest/ back.

Amarie Mc
Cheryl Kilpatrick I was on 40 mg of Pantoprazole since last August. I quit 2 months ago.

Related Post: My GERD symptoms have seem to worsen since then and I don't know why.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Cheryl why did the doc give u such strong dosage btw a doctor gave me very strong dosage in ppi equivalent to that and that's what brought on my reflux.

Amarie Mc
Cheryl Kilpatrick I had endoscopy last July I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis, gastritis, reflux, & stomach erosions. GI said other than that I had no major issues. No hernias. He said there was an abnormality with my esophagus but it was not permanent.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Yes Cheryl I feel like it is malpractice and I didn't have reflux until I was Rx.nexium 40mg twice a day for nsaid induced stomach pains and then when I tried to stop that's when this awful reflux started happening and I was taking that dosage for months because the doctor never told me to stop ๐Ÿ˜ฃ.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Cheryl the thing with ppis is that the more acid it suppresses is the more our bodies try to regularise our acid production thus eventually needing stronger and stronger doses that's why we're not supposed to take them long term.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
That's a good idea Cheryl but the ppi makers clearly state that we aren't supposed to take for longer than a couple weeks to a couple months according to what the symptoms are and the stupid doctors are supposed to try us with the lowest dosages before putting us on those extremely high dosages. I was only on it for about three months when I tried to come off and got severe rebound reflux something I've never had before now it's been since September 2015 I'm forced to take ppi because I have terrible reflux daily.

Related Post: What are some natural remedies for gerd that people have tired?.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Cheryl I feel awful I have a severe case of oesophagitis because I've been weaning off the ppis to see if I can come off but I only made it about five days on two separate occasions as the reflux has been so severe and even healthy foods give me reflux I've also been trying natural stuff u name it I've been trying it so just wating to see gastro doc next month.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir That's exactly what I did I took apart the capsules and would count the beads I started with 450 beads and I would reduce by 10% every week it took me about four months to do this plus I used ranitidine and antacids in between together with slippery elm aloe vera juice turmeric papaya digestive enzymes all in between but I'm not giving up yet and please don't let me frighten u because we are all different so what might not work for me may work for u

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
I am also taking probiotics and I took triple therapy twice for h pylori Cheryl so I want to try a Candida diet and also diflucan to see if I have yeast in my stomach

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Thanks Cheryl hope u get better soon and we can beat this I believe it may knock us down but we'll get back up๐Ÿ˜†

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
I think they say the white film could be a sign of Candida which is essentially fungus it could be thrush (but a doc would have to say) Diflucan is an antifungal my regular GP told me to try one tablet to see if it helps in anyway with my severe reflux.

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Cheryl sorry to hear that your daughter had to do chemo I couldn't imagine what you've all been through๐Ÿ‘ญ

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Cheryl I like speaking with u maybe u can add me on fb and we can support each other through this awful disease?

Miriam Mustafa-Ragoobir
Oh my gosh you've summed me up that has been me to everyone in my life and I've not been on the receiving end ...except now my hubby really tries....and I was now about to talk about stress when u said it! I did have an seriously stressful time this last year so idkn mine could be stress as eating healthy doesn't help. Anyways we must keep trying! Enjoy the rest of your day take care!

Josiebel Franco
Some meds are just not for some people if im being honest, what may work for others may not work for you. Most meds have alot of side effects that sometimes even make you worse.

Josiebel Franco
But my one remedy that always works is a hot bath. Trust me. You might get the pain after you get out the bath or maybe not. But if you are in alot of pain thats a great way to stop it.

Amarie Mc
I just sit straight up in my recliner and don't move Lol! Not very productive but at least I know if I need to pass out I'm sitting down already.

Josiebel Franco
Yeah i recently discovered that sitting up and straight will supposedly help. It doesnt really work for me, but laying in my bed after like 5 mins the pain either goes away or eases up. Which i know it is said that if you lay down is easier to get acid reflux to go up but it actually works for me. But i gotta be laying on my side or my face against the pillow.

Ellen Ruddell
Lying on your left side can help stop or reduce the reflux in bed, it's helped me.

Loretta Drerup
I use Famotidine (Pepcid), 20mg twice a day. It took a few weeks to work, but now it's pretty decent. I was on Rabeprazole before but wanted to move away from the PPIs

Amarie Mc
PPI's are the devil! I say if there are no major issues like hernias the only thing to truly do is heal the gut.

Loretta Drerup
I had amazing reflux control on PPIs, I had bad erosion which healed over time whilst on it, but they just aren't safe in the long term. I worry I'll have more troubles now but I'm trying to be safer :).

Amarie Mc
Loretta Donaldson how long did it take for erosions to heal?

Loretta Drerup I'm not sure exactly...my first endoscopy showed erosion in 2011, then I had another endoscopy in 2015 which showed it had healed. I don't know how long it took but I assume a lot less than 4 years...I just didn't have a follow up sooner

Annette M. Leveque
It took a good four weeks for me to start to feel better and six weeks to feel back to normal on 40mg of Nexium in the morning and 40 mg in the evening and 300 mgs of Zantac right before bed. I am now only on Zantac at night and use Tums, Alka Seltzer and GasX if needed during the day. I am now looking into dietary changes. I am not free of issues but I am no longer in def con 4 distress.

Stephanie Parks
A strong probiotic, DGL, and digestive enzymes. I've treated my reflux naturally.

Andrea Bodo
Ranitidine, Magic Mouthwash.

Andrea Bodo
Cheryl Kilpatrick it was originally concocted to help people on chemo with mouth ulcerations. My GI uses it to calm down my LES. It really helps me, I swallow one Tbsp of it and my LES relaxes (because of the lidocaine). I wonder if you would get relief using something like Sucrets ?

Rick Sundberg
This was my gastroenterologists treatment plan, Pantoprazole (Protonix), Sucralfate (Carafate), Famotidine (Pepcid) and Calcium Carbonate (Tums). I also had a mouthwash that contained: Nystatin, Hydrocortisone, Tetracycline, Diphenhydramine and Lidocaine.

Rick Sundberg
Cheryl No alcohol in the mouthwash. The term "magic mouthwash" is kind of a general term, my doctor designs his own and the pharmacist mixes it to his specifications. I used them both 4 times daily. Swallowed the mouthwash.

Rick Sundberg
I now am off all meds for GERD. I follow a very strict diet and exercise plan that seems to manage it really well. Still I get bouts occasionally but manage it with Pepcid and Tums.

Carl Cook
Ive started using Greens from It Works and ive not had to take any prescription fir almost 60 days now. i love them!!

Shelley Moffatt
I suck on my carafate and try to hold it inthe back of my throat. I also make ice Popsicles out of alkaline water and suck on them when I have a sore throat's in the afternoon and evening.
