'Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD

Home Remedy for Gerd And Heartburn

Remedy for Gerd: 4 glasses of water the first thing in the morning. Plz try this instead of meds.

I have suffered gerd for a decade. I used ppi. When I heard side effects of ppiz, I started to change my lifestyle, sleeping on wedge pillow. And drinikng a glass of water just after bed in the early morning.

It improved a lot. Now I take around 4 capsules of ppiz of 20 mg a month. I discussed this with one of my colleagues. He said that he used to throw out acid even through nose. He cried and begged bfore god. He never resorted to meds. He started drinikng four glasses of water the first thing in the morning. And now he is 100% symptoms free.

I was able to drink so much water before but once I got Gerd my stomach is so bloated just after a glass of water. I struggle now to drink it and I want to be able to.

I don't understand
why water does this to me. It's the only thing I've drank for years along with green tea and I had to stop drinking green tea.

They sell the wedge pillows a lot places. We got one at Babies R Us to put under our son's mattress when he was sick. Think they sell them at most of the box stores too.

Terry Carson
Its also easier to put something under the legs of your bed frame to raise up the head side too....or both with the pillows/wedge too

I drink about 3 litres a day. Helps me hugely

Mary Leavell
Lucky you! I wish I could.

I drink a lot of water as well so I am hoping that it will eventually help long-term. I have only had Gerd for about 2 years so I am not a long term sufferer--but I now am!!

Dave Wakefield
I class it as my medicine to get through the day. Love the stuff.

Robert J. Morrison
Me too! Mary you might want to add a flavor if that could help since I think water is critical to this issue!

Mary Leavell
I don't mind plain water, but it's the way my stomach feels like there's no room for any water. I feel so bloated drinking it.

Michelle Bates-Phipps
Water often makes my symptoms worse, especially a lot at once or on an empty stomach but I'm glad you have found relief this way.

Zeinab Ahmed
Why does water gives me reflux is beyond me! Can anybody tell me please?

Terry Carson
Happens to a lot of us...drink very small amounts at a time.

Terry Carson
If your stomach is empty and you drink a large volume of water, the water itself can fill your stomach enough to cause the LES to open. Distension (swelling) of the stomach causes it to release acid, which mixes with the water, resulting in an acidic liquid which can enter the esophagus and also cause heartburn.

Zeinab Ahmed
So i drink just when there is food in the stomach and little amounts but through out the day right?

Even with food I would not as its better to have just food in in the stomach not both as it will expand it too...small amounts are much better and not cold either. Also don't mix so many foods together as lets say fruit should be eaten alone as it digests at a different rate than foods...good luck you just need to find your triggers and use a good product to keep the acid down for your system can heal...then you will slowly start to feel better...it took a while for the body to ask for help...take it slow.

Zeinab Ahmed
Thanks alot. This post just xonfused me alittle bit because he said drink 4 glasses of water in the morning

Terry Carson
The biggest issue most face at the beginning is it's either one way or the other...you have too much acid or too little...that you need to find out first. If too little then water may help.

Terry Carson
Can acid reflux be caused by dehydration?
Digestive problems are another early symptom. All the substances that break down food in the digestive tract are water- based. Acid reflux is thought to be causes by the production of too much stomach acid. However, too little stomach acid due to chronic dehydration is often the real cause.

Terry Carson
What you will find with research is it’s the Digestive problems with your system that is out of sync which leads to the heartburn/les issues...need to continue to fix your Digestive problems first and the reflux will heal and go away...just as long as not too much damage has happened.

Terry Carson
Also a higher PH water may help you too....Among those perks is the belief that alkaline H2O—which, by definition, has a higher pH (and lower acidity) than what comes out of the tap—can help neutralize stomach acid and relieve symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux, aka heartburn.

Terry Carson
And use Gavison Advance from the UK to heal yourself at nightime.

Zeinab Ahmed
I know it is out of sync. I keep taking ppi and probiotics . Trying to heal the digestive track with aloe vera and will start glutamine or broth

Terry Carson
Again my friend you need to try and go slow and not mix too many products at once as again it took a longtime for your body to ask for help and it will take some time to get back to normal..but it will happen and you can do it.

Terry Carson
The ppi's are not good at all for more than 14 days and will confuse the system even more...also will have a real rebound effect when trying to get off them...you will need some other meds when getting off those.

Terry Carson
Your other products will not work if the system is on ppi's. It’s a balance problem for sure. Also be careful with the probiotics as they can compound issues inside your system.

Zeinab Ahmed
I take the ppi to prevent damage but i know they are not the solution. I really need to work hard on the diet and buy the gaviscon advance if i can find it in canada.

Terry Carson
For everyone with this kind of issues with the system as a whole...start slow...eat single whole foods by themselves and wait a little to find out what your system can handle first...same with products you choose to try...your body will tell you what it likes...there is no one solution as we are all so different... what worked for me my not work for you.

Terry Carson
Remember with ppi's they shut off the acid in the stomach lining which of course you need as then the problem gets worse as the food is not totally digested as it enters the rest of your system which in turn will do more damage...short term use only.

Zeinab Ahmed
Oh dear I am suffering and with me even the PPI are not relieving my symptoms

Terry Carson
That’s cause its not the answer for you...keep it simple and go slow...I know its tough as I have been through it all...it will take a long time to correct and you will have set back days but the body is really something special and can heal itself if you give it what it needs.

Zeinab Ahmed
Right thank for the kind words. If i see a dietician do you think she can help me navigate the kind of foods good foe the stomach

Terry Carson
It sounds like a very good start to help you with the foods...give it some time and your body will come back.

Angie John Preston
Just drink small amounts often. Don't overfill stomach but stay hydrated.

Zeinab Ahmed
Terry Carson u are an angel sent to me today
thanks so much i really appreciate the time and advice you gave one thing at a time and give it time
listen to your body
i screenshot this conversation to keep me motivated. thanks a bunch.

Mary Leavell
Terry Carson maybe that's why I got Gerd because I was on a group water challenge and I was drinking so much water a day. So I think I'm doing my body good and turns out it back fires on me .

Susan Noble
Terry Carson Don't you think its ok to take PPIs for a few months when your main symptom is closing throat feeling and cough? My doctor said I should take Omeprazole for a while to heal my throat before trying to come off it.

Terry Carson
Sure if your doc thinks it is for the best course to heal damage. But what happens most times is people don't listen to their bodies due to drugs covering up the issues. The real cure is to listen to what your body needs to heal and try to stay with it and not go back to eating somethings that started the problems. Modern Medicine is most times fast and strong to get the worst damage started to heal and fixed up but long term use is not good for sure.

Kasia Rawls
Four glasses of water at once??? That's a lot of liquid.

Srikumar Nair
I think lot of water in the morning/empty stomach is a good idea. But drinking water right before/after a meal may not be so great. Apparently it dilutes the stomach acid that is needed to break down the food just ingested. BTW, the assumption here is low stomach is the reason for reflux for some of the folks. Well, that is what I read somewhere.

Dave Wakefield
I forgot to mention I drink plenty of water but never before, during or after a meal. I leave it for around 30 mins before and after meals until drinking.
